What is Sound Healing?

Sound healing is one of humanity’s oldest healing arts. Long before modern medicine, cultures across the world understood that vibration and tone could restore balance within the human being.

From ancient chants and drums to bells, strings, and the human voice, sound has always been used as a bridge between the seen and unseen—bringing harmony where there is dissonance.

At SoundMend, this ancient wisdom is honored and woven into a modern healing practice rooted in presence, intention, and care.

The foundations of sound healing can be traced back thousands of years, including to the Greek philosopher and mathematician Pythagoras, often called the “father of musical medicine.”

Pythagoras taught that the universe itself is structured by harmony and number, and that music could be used to align the soul with this natural order. He observed that specific tones and intervals could calm the mind, regulate emotions, and restore inner equilibrium—an idea now echoed by contemporary studies on frequency, resonance, and the nervous system.

Sound healing works by gently guiding the body and mind into states of coherence. As sound waves move through the body—composed largely of water—they encourage deep relaxation, helping to quiet mental chatter, release stored tension, and soothe the nervous system. On a physical level, sound can support rest, circulation, and stress reduction. Mentally and emotionally, it fosters clarity, grounding, and emotional release. Spiritually, sound opens a space for stillness, connection, and remembrance of one’s inner wholeness.

At its heart, SoundMend is about remembrance and repair—helping the mind, body, spirit, and soul return to their natural rhythm. Each session is an invitation to slow down, listen deeply, and allow sound to gently mend what has been strained, forgotten, or out of tune. Healing does not come from force, but from resonance—and sound reminds us how to come back into harmony with ourselves.

My Journey

SoundMend began with a personal experience that profoundly shifted my understanding of healing. I attended a sound bath at a time when I was actively seeking meaningful relief from physical and emotional strain. During the closing moments of silence following the vibrations, I became aware of a gentle tingling sensation moving through my hands and arms and settling into a long-standing shoulder injury.

The experience felt both calming and restorative, offering a sense of ease I had not felt before. What stood out most was not only the physical response, but the clarity that followed—an unmistakable sense that I had been guided toward a form of healing that truly resonated with me.

A simple invitation from a friend led me there, and that moment marked the beginning of a deep and lasting connection with sound as a therapeutic practice. From that experience forward, sound healing became not just an interest, but a calling—one rooted in presence, intention, and respect for the body’s innate ability to respond to vibration.

Accreditation

Inspired by my experience, I sought out more information on the science and practical applications of Sound Healing. My search led me to The Sound Healing Academy International, where I successfully completed my training and received my diploma in Integral Sound Healing.

I have continued my training under my mentor at The Sound Healing Academy to also integrate instruments like Gongs, the Ocean Drum and Koshi Chimes to enhance specialized healing techniques and to create a sacred space to facilitate your healing.
